The Jewish holiday of Purim begins tonight, and it’s definitely one of my favorite celebrations all year. I usually spend a weekend baking dozens and dozens of hamantaschen and then share them with friends and family as part of the tradition of giving treats and gifts. But this year I was inspired by the bakers around the world making hamantaschen and decided to sell my three-cornered treats to raise money to support people fleeing from the war in Ukraine. I managed to make 150 hamantaschen and raised over $300, which I am donating. Thanks to Joe Baur for writing about this and inspiring me to do just a tiny part to help.
We haven’t even gotten through Purim yet, and I am already thinking about Passover. (Occupational hazard!) For many of us, it will be the first time in two years that we’ve been able to gather with extended family and friends for the holiday. And, I am here to support you through it. Let me know if there are tips or recipes you are specifically looking for. Passover food problems that need solving? Menu inspiration? Shoot me an email at hello@thenosher.com and I will do my best to answer your questions.
But back to Purim for a moment. If you need a last-minute hamantaschen hack, try this easy 2 ingredient hamantaschen using store-bought pie crust and your favorite filling. I also love this version that Abby Ricarte whipped up using only pantry staples, transforming pie dough and canned fruit into a hamantaschen masterpiece.
We always love seeing your hamantaschen (and other Jewish food creations), so don’t forget to tag JewishFood on Instagram or send us photos to hello@thenosher.com.
